About AMI

Association Montessori Internationale (AMI), founded in 1929 by Dr. Maria Montessori and her son Mario Montessori to preserve and promulgate her method, represents authentic Montessori. AMI-trained guides (teachers) go through rigorous training often three times as long as other types of Montessori training where they learn to observe and to create their own "albums" based on their observations. Through this process, they learn the Montessori philosophy from the trainers, who are considered masters in the field.

As part of being an AMI school:

  • All guides and the director are AMI trained.
  • Classroom materials are purchased from an AMI-approved vendor.
  • Each environment (classroom) has a complete set of materials
  • The daily schedule allows for uninterrupted work cycles to develop students' concentration, typically 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.
  • School and guides are evaluated on-site by consultants assigned by AMI-USA headquarters.

Only one other school in Colorado currently is Recognized by AMI.
